What you need

Transmission and distribution systems need increasing levels of security and reliability both in low and in the upper voltage levels. Power transformers in distribution and transmission systems can regulate the voltage levels in the best way according to the final use of the energy, providing the necessary power. Instead, measuring transformers beyond their basic metering function can facilitate the introduction and management of smart equipments in the data's telecommunication sector. Type tests provide the evaluation of the design compliance that for oil immersed machines is confirmed also by field data coming from even over 5 decades of operation. For the new typologies of dry type distribution and transmission transformers, the international standards have established tests that reproduce accelerated aging and any environmental stress (fire behavior tests) to estimate the reliability of the insulation with the passing years.

What we do

CESI helps its Client in making beyond type tests also special tests both in low and high temperatures (-25 ºC / +50 ºC), short circuit tests, fire behavior tests (for dry type transformers), mechanical and seismic tests, etc. These tests can be carried out for testing voltages from down to 1 kV and up to 400 kV (in Rondissone Plant). Examples of Tests on Distrubution and Transmission Transformers:

  • Dielectric tests (PF, LI, PD, separate AC voltage withstand test, induced ACVoltage test)
  • Temperature rise tests
  • In-rush test
  • Short-circuit withstand tests

And for dry type typologies:

  • Climatic tests (C1 & C2 classes)
  • Environmental tests (E1 & E2 classes)
  • Fire behavior test (F1 class, including checking of gases emission)

Tests can be carried out according to major international standards, as: IEC 60076-1, -2, -3, -5, being the short circuit tests the more requested. In these cases for transformers rated more than 100 MVA tests are realized in Rondissone Plant, with a pre or post short-circuit test methodology. As 60076-11, for dry type transformers and as 60044-1 and 60068-2-17 for measuring transformers .
