Client Challenge
The MEDRING-Update study addressed the following topics:
- To provide an updated overview of the present status and future perspectives of the electricity sector in the countries of the Mediterranean Basin;
- To highlight the possible technical solutions for closing the Mediterranean Electrical Ring;
- To highlight the possible technical solutions for South-North electricity corridors for the export to Europe of bulk quantity of power generated from RES (Renewable Electricity Sources), namely solar and wind
What we've done
- Analysis of the technical, environmental and legislative obstacles for the closure of the Ring;
- Preparing the mid-term scenario of evolution of demand and generation
- Formulating proposals on the South-North corridors crossing the Mediterranean Sea through submarine cables
- Formulating recommendations on specific studies to be undertaken to progress towards the creation of regional markets and the integration of the regional power pools that still isolated each other.
