Client Challenge

The lake Sarez was generated after a seismic event occurred in 1911 that caused the downfall of a huge rock. The latter blocked the valley where flows the Murgab's river. The lake now is length 60 km and is located in the Pamir's plateau. There were serious seismic and caves' risks that could cause the dam's overtopping. Consequently, the United Nations with the economical help of the World Bank financed a monitoring system of all valley and the related alert system for the populations living nearby.

What we've done

CESI, as a consulting body for the World Bank, participated to many inspections and realized the preliminary project of the Monitoring System (seismic, geotechnical, geological, hydraulic and topographic) and the related Alert System for the populations living in the valley (up to 200 km from the dam's body).

Client benefits

CESI's consulting service was very well appreciated and led to the evaluation of all bids presented by the companies that participated to the challenge called by the Government of Tajikistan. Furthermore, the World Bank asked CESI to oversee the project realized by the Swiss company who won the contest.
