ATEX and IECEx product certification

Modern day industrial automation has increased the need for electric equipment in hazardous areas. The use of equipment, especially electrical, in these areas is generally highly regulated and in Europe is covered with Directive 94/9/EC (ATEX Directive). As a manufacturer, you have to place products on the market that comply with the applicable harmonized standards. The Manufacturers, the installers and the users, CESI can partner with you to help you achieve the certification and valorization of your products and units working in potentially explosive atmospheres.

What we do

CESI is the internationally recognised certification body for explosion protected equipment, delivering both ATEX and IECEx certification to customers around the globe. We assess and certify the compliance of your products and equipment, functional units and quality systems against the requirements of European ATEX regulations and international IEC standards (IECEx scheme).
ATEX product certification (or EC Type Examination) is the check on the design specification of a product in relation to a series of relevant standards laid out under the directive.

The certification process is undertaken by CESI, who issue ATEX certificates and conduct periodic surveillance of quality management systems issuing QAN (Quality Assessment Notification) certificate.
Gaining an IECEx Certificate of Conformity (CoC) for a product provides a manufacturer with an International Statement that:

• The product shown on the certificate is manufactured to meet the listed International IEC Standard;
• The manufacturer is operating a dedicated quality management system, meeting the specific IECEx requirements;
• The manufacturer is under on-going surveillance by an internationally assessedand recognised IECEx Certification Body

Why CESI

The Testing and the Research work into explosions in hazardous atmospheres have been carried out at CESI since the 1970s The credibility, assurance and international recognition associated with the services that CESI provide is supported by comprehensive formal third party accreditations and approvals.

CESI is Notified through the European Commission (Notified Body identification number 0722) for the application of all modules of the ATEX Directive covered all electrical and mechanical equipment working in a potentially explosive atmosphere.

In the same time CESI is an Accepted Ex Certification Body (ExCB) and Accepted Ex Test Laboratory (ExTL) and as such can assess your product to the relevant standards.
CESI can offer full assessment and testing from large electrical machines to nonelectrical equipment approval. We can conduct full testing and assessment (ATEX and/or IECEx) at our in house accredited laboratories.
